Improved console responsiveness, flask quickstart, and hosting accounts!

We’ve just released a new version of PythonAnywhere. Here are the details…

  • We’ve changed the console connections from using Socket.IO to SockJS. This really seems to be a much faster and more responsive way to do things, hopefully you’ll see a noticeable improvement in usability.
  • Lots of people asked us for a quick-start wizard for Flask web applications, so we’ve added one.
  • We now have Hosting accounts, costing $10 per month, which allow you to run a PythonAnywhere application from your own domain as well as giving you more scheduled tasks and more bandwidth than our $5 Premium plan. You can upgrade your account from here.
  • Two minor improvements: we’ve upgraded our GDAL library to 1.9.0, and added the Python bindings for the Enchant spellchecking system.
